The Tortoise Award
The race of life mostly resembles a marathon, not a sprint. The Tortoise Award is to highlight and recognize the people who work diligently towards their goal. This may mean long hours, years without noticeable success, foreseeable hardships and yet they persist. It's easy to give accolades to the people who make it look easy and accomplish things quickly. The Tortoise Award, however recognizes those who run the long race, build for the future, and devote the most. The race is not always to the swift and we want to recognize the steady growth of others.
2018 Tortoise Award Winner
Keegan Guizard & CSEF
For YEARS, Keegan has worked hard to bring college scholarships to people who love to skateboard. Many people still treat skateboarders as a nuisance and problems-to-be-solved. Instead, Keegan is pushing colleges to accept skateboarding as an official sport and developing an educational foundation to award college scholarships. Skateboarders know all about resiliency and Keegan knows how persistence and determination brings success. You can always learn one more trick, raise one more dollar for scholarships and recruit one more college into the league. CSEF, the project without a finish line, is the most inclusive educational project of 2018 and the inaugural Tortoise Award Winner!
